Prambanan, the Biggest Hindu Temple in Indonesia
Prambanan and Borobudur are two popular temples in Indonesia which attract lots of tourists around the world. Prambanan is located near the Buddhist Borobudur temple. Though Borobudur is bigger than Prambanan but it doesn't mean you could underestimate Prambanan. Prambanan also has its uniqueness which fascinating its visitors. Prambanan is the largest Hindu temple in Southeast Asia. The beautiful and graceful temple of Prambanan is a magnificent spectacle and an icon of Indonesia's cultural heritage. In the main yard, there are the three main temples, as well as three Wahana temples, two Apit temples, and eight Patok temples surrounded by fences. In the second yard of Prambanan temple, there are another 224 Perwara temples. The biggest temple in Prambanan is dedicated to Shiva. The two smaller ones on its right and left are dedicated to Brahma and Wisnu. They are gods of Hindu people. Prambanan temple was rediscovered in 1733 after hundreds years of neglect. Since then, this Prambanan temple has been revitalized and today is widely regarded as the most beautiful and graceful Hindu temple in Indonesia. Prambanan was declared as a World Heritage site in 1991 by UNESCO. You could find reliefs inside the Prambanan temple. It shows epic story of Ramayana. Inside the Prambanan temple, there are also historical items like the Lingga Batara Siwa stone which is a symbol of fertility. You could snap as many photos as you want in Prambanan. Photographers will also be able to take pictures at different times of the day since the ticket purchased to enter Prambanan is valid for a whole day meaning you can exit and re-enter the sites as many times as you wish. Another popular one from Prambanan is its classic Javanese Ramayana ballet or dance drama which you could see during May to October at full moon. It is performed by more than 250 dancers in an outdoor open stage with as its backdrop the full moon dramatically rising over the Prambanan temples. This could be a very beautiful view and dance to enjoy. Prambanan is surrounded by a landscaped park and stores selling tourist souvenirs. After all, Prambanan is truly worthy to visit.
