Greeting the Sunrise in Mount Bromo
One of the most popular active volcanoes in Indonesia is Mount
Bromo. Bromo is located in East Java, Indonesia. A spectacular view of sunrise highlighting rows of adjacent mountains and "the sea of sand” around are offered by Mount
Bromo. Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is the official name of the entire volcanic complex. It is situated 50km east of Malang.
When you want to enter the park, renting a jeep with an experienced driver is much recommended. It's for about $30/car and easy to find at the entrance. The driver will take you through the curvy narrow paths with steep ravines to reach Mt. Penanjakan. It's prime area to capture beautiful panorama of the surroundings. To greet the sunrise in
Bromo, you need a functioning alarm clock, strong will, and of course a fully-charged camera if you want to frame the beautiful moment of sunrise in Mount
Bromo. People usually start to gather in the veranda of mount Penanjakan before 4 A.M to get the best spot for sunset viewing. The cold and freezing pre-dawn temperature of
Bromo area will be regardless. However, all of the adrenaline poured during the Jeep tour and facing the chills will certainly be paid off when the sun starts to rise and beam its light upon this landscape. The mountains are beautifully presented across the sea of sand in the caldera of ancient Tengger volcano. It is declared as the only desert-like area in Indonesia and thus has been protected since the early 1900s. The view of Mount
Bromo, Mount Batok, and Mount Semeru covered in mist under the clear blue sky will be an exotic package rarely found. The Jeep tour usually takes tourists to
Bromo foothills where people will be able to walk or ride horses to climb the mountain and view the caldera of Mount
Bromo. Tenggger people rent out the horse for visitors. Tengger people are the remaining indigenous Hindu communities of Majapahit era that inhabit the area, both in and around the park. They still strongly perform their religious duties to respect Mount
Bromo as a sacred place. They hold Kasada Festival once a year between December-January in the modest temple located in front of Mount Batok. After that, they will climb up mountain to deliver offerings of foods, flowers, etc. Those offerings are thrown to the caldera of Mount
Bromo.
