What is Bromo-Dragonfly?

When hearing the name Bromo-Dragonfly perhaps some people will be familiar with this name. But for those who have just heard it now, you will be mistaken if you think that it is something about Mt Bromo in Indonesia. Mt Bromo is well known among domestic and foreign tourists. Mt Bromo is a popular destination for the mount trekker and also sunrise hunter. But the term Bromo-Dragonfly here has no relation at all with the famous Bromo. As I said before, some people will have known about the real meaning of Bromo-Dragonfly and the nuisance of hearing it will be very contrast to when you hear about Mt Bromo. So actually, what's Bromo-Dragonfly?

Bromo-Dragonfly is an extremely potent and long acting synthetic psychedelic drug with stimulant properties. Psychedelics are a category of hallucinogens that literally cause an aspect of the mind to manifest that would otherwise be hidden. It causes certain mental 'filters' to be temporarily switched off, allowing the influenced to experience many emotions, feeling, and ideas coming in from the outside world that would otherwise be blocked out. A common term used to describe psychedelics is mind expanding. Bromo-Dragonfly has an active dose typically in the mid-to-high microgram range.

Early cases of human use regarding Bromo-Dragonfly could be traced to 2001. The name of the Bromo-Dragonfly is derived from a superficial resemblance of the molecular structure to that of a fly, with the two furan rings on opposing sides of a central phenyl ring forming the wings. Due to the its high potency and steep dose-response curve, overdose is a distinct possibility. There have been several severe injuries and fatalities directly attributed to Bromo-Dragonfly overdose.

Bromo-Dragonfly has been found in some pressed tablets, but more commonly it is found on blotter or in powder form. It is sold in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway with legal status as controlled substance while it is illegal in Romania and considered a controlled substance analogue under US, Europe, and Australian drug laws. Bromo-Dragonfly is a dangerous drug caused death of its overdose. October 3, 2009 a 22 year old man from Copenhagen died after ingesting it. On May 7, 2011, in the United States, two young adults died after overdosing on Bromo-Dragonfly. The deaths occurred after a fatal miscalculation in dosage. Those who took the drug received, in some cases, 100x the normal dose. Both deaths were very violent, resulting in massive seizures, vomiting blood, and terrifying hallucinations, and several surviving victims are still suffering from its effects.
