Borobudur, the Greatest Buddhist Temple Acknowledged by the World.

One of the greatest monuments in the world we can find in Indonesia is Borobudur temple. Borobudur is the biggest temple in Indonesia. Borobudur is a famous tourist attraction locataed in Magelang, Central Java. Borobudur also becomes a center of worship for Buddhists in Indonesia. When it's time to celebrate Waisak, the Buddhists will gather at Borobudur for the celebration. "Monastery in the hills” is the predicate given for Borobudur. It's called so because Borobudur lies in the hills.

UNESCO has established Borobudur as one of the world cultural heritage. Borobudur itself was built around 800BC or 9^th century. One king of Old Mataram, Sailendra descendants, Samaratungga, is the one who built Borobudur. While the architect of record as someone who is successfully built this temple is Gunadarma. The establishment of Borobudur as one of the world cultural heritage makes proud all people in Indonesia and also throughout the world.

There are 1460 relief panels and 504 Buddha effigies in this Borobudur temple. Kamadahatu is the base of Borobudur. It symbolizes human beings that are still bound by the lust. Rupadahatu, humans who have set themselves free from lust but are still tied to appearance and shape is represented by the four levels mentioned above. Overall, there are ten levels in Borobudur temple. It consists of three circular levels, six square circular levels, and a main stupa asa a peak. There are stupas at every level. There is a statue of Buddha in every stupa. Altogether, Borobudur has 72 domes beside the main stupa.

It can be found a wall relief of Borobudur which tells a legendary story of Ramayana. There are also some relief panels that describe the conditions of the society at that time. The teaching if Buddha is reflected in all the relief panels. Therefore, Borobudur will function as educating media for those who want to learn Buddhism.

Borobudur becomes the evidence of human intelligence and excellence which has ever made in Indonesia. Borobudur with its grandeur and mystery attracts people from all over the world to visit, making it become the major cultural attractions in Indonesia instead of Jakarta and Bali.
