How is Borneo Weather?

Borneo is a place to visit any time of the year for average traveler. Those who like extensive jungle trekking, diving, and golfing, the rainy season comes with notable disadvantages. Thus it's important to get information of Borneo weather before you visit there. The temperatures are averaging between 27 °– 32°C, with a relative humidity of around 80% for much of the year. The weather pattern of the South China, Sulu and Sulawesi Seas and the seasonal winds or "monsoons” influences Borneo weather. The "monsoons” can bring warm dry weather or heavy rains depending on their nature and origin.

The Borneo weather is unpredictable with localized and complicated conditions. It could be highest rainfall in one region while another is dry. In Kuching for example the wet season lasts from November to February and the dry season from June to August. In Kota Kinabalu, the driest months are February and March and most rainfall appears in the months around October. In Pontianak, Indonesia, most rainfall appears from October to December however, the wet season is not as distinctive as in the Malaysian part of Borneo. Borneo weather condition is also often changing quickly form sunshine to showers or vice versa only in minutes. So travelers should consider that there are days without rain during wet season and occasionally heavy rainfalls during dry season. Camping in the jungle for several days during wet season will not be a pleasure for travelers.

Whilst there are peak months in terms of tourism (May – Sept), it is advisable not to put too much emphasis on Borneo weather prospects. Commonly, a peak in rainfall occurs between November and March, although even in these months rainfall can be sporadic, and it is difficult to pre-determine which will be the wet weeks and which will be the dry. However, this unique Borneo weather should not prevent you to visit here and enjoy your adventure.
