Choices of Places for Adventurous Trips in Kalimantan
Kalimantan Rivers – Kalimantan is known as ‘the land of thousand rivers'. You can't have real adventurous trips here without experiencing the rivers. For the adventure travelers it is the way to discover the isolated areas along the upper reaches of the rivers. There are many rivers in here ranked as the longest or biggest rivers in the world. The Kapuas River at West Kalimantan, is with it's lenght of 1100 km the second longest in the world after the Amazon River, followed by The Mahakam River with its 960 km the third longest river in the world. Along The Mahakam River you can find the Fresh Water Dolphins near Muara Pahu, and at the side River called Rata River for your adventurous trips. The seven amazing rapids of the Mahakam are an adventure itself, rafting the rapids can be done by longboat. The Barito is with its 4 km weight the world biggest River. Not to forget the Kayan River, with its lenght of almost 800 km. Many small and side rivers can be found all over Kalimantan, famous side Rivers are Landak River as a side river of the Kapuas River, and the Kedang Kepala River as a side River of the Mahakam River. Cruising along the rivers will be fun for your adventurous trips.
Kalimantan Jungles - Kalimantan jungles contain some of the oldest undisturbed areas of rainforest in the world which will be perfect for adventurous trips. Some of the best and most spectacular areas of rainforest have been incorporated into National Parks. The National Parks at Kalimantan comprises the largest remaining block of rainforest in Borneo and as such forms a very important refuge for numerous species. Kalimantan's dense jungles terrain can be found at the upper parts of the Rivers at Kalimantan Islands. The remote jungle area's have traditionally kept the region isolated from all but the most adventurous travelers, and is providing adventurous trips for the travelers into the deep interior of Kalimantan. Kalimantan has the largest relatively pristine ulin forest in Indonesia. Several Tree species are mangrove, cemara laut, meranti, ulin, kapur, as well as a variety of rare plants as 3 species of rafflesia, and various orchid species.
Kalimantan Mountains - Kalimantan is more hilly then mountainous but it still worthy for adventurous trips here. The Mountains as Muller Mountains, Schwaner Mountains are mostly found in the heart of Borneo, in the deeper hinterland parts of the island. The mountains are covered with cloud forest, and mostly untouched, as their remote areas. It's challenging for adventurous trips to explore this remote area. Several smaller Mountains with tops from 1200 to 1700 meters can be found in the Kayan Mentarang, Apokayan, and Meratus Mountains. Meratus Mountain lies from southern to northern of South Borneo. The range inhabited by Meratus Dayak ethnic. The highest part is on Mount Besar. The area is covered by tropical rain forest, river, mossy stone, and tremendous waterfall.
